Scaling Collaborative Care with Concert Health
We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Concert Health, a leading provider of patient-centric behavioral health services. Concert’s rigorous Collaborative Care model has been deployed at over 50 medical groups across the country and treated over 27,000 patients, ensuring that those individuals receive timely, accessible, and outcomes-driven behavioral health services. Define Ventures is leading Concert’s $42 million Series B round and is joined by strategic investors CommonSpirit Health and Advent Health, with continued participation from existing investors Vertical Venture Partners, Healthy Ventures, and Town Hall Ventures.
Despite the United States spending over $200 billion annually on behavioral health, there remains a deep need for high quality, affordable, and importantly, integrated services. According to NAMI, over 50 million Americans need behavioral health services today — not one of them should have to experience care that is delayed, disjointed, or that does not otherwise connect to their physical health, which time and time again has been proven to drive clinical outcomes. Define Ventures has long believed that one of the most effective ways of delivering behavioral health is alongside a patient’s existing primary care, pediatric, and women’s health providers, rather than through silos that operate independently of a patient’s physical health needs. This fundamental and pervasive failure of our healthcare system is exactly what Concert Health set out to fix, once and for all.
We first met Concert Health in January 2020 and quickly became impressed not only with co-founders Spencer and Virna, but also their unwavering dedication to patients, outcomes, and delivering best-in-class behavioral health through true partnership with our healthcare system. After having deployed with leading health systems across the country, including CommonSpirit and Advent Health, that is exactly what Concert’s Collaborative Care model has proven: the model has decreased depression symptoms by 50%, promoted higher medication adherence, and increased satisfaction of care; nearly 50% of patients have seen their symptoms of depression or anxiety reduce by half within the first 90 days. Concert is led by Spencer Hutchins (CEO), a repeat digital health founder with deep experience in health and public service and Virna Little, LCSW, PsyD (Chief Clinical Officer), a nationally recognized expert in behavioral health and Collaborative Care.
Define Ventures and Concert have already begun a close partnership, focusing resources on health system relationships and recruiting a world-class team:
Effecting sustained improvement in the US healthcare system is hard work. At Concert Health, we prioritized finding an investment partner who truly shared in our vision to build not just a valuable organization, but a transformational one. The Define Ventures team has already shown to be a great partner and we’re glad to have them in our corner.
— Spencer Hutchins, Founder & CEO
Concert currently operates in 11 states, including California, Texas, Florida, and New York, and this new round of funding will help continued expansion across the country. We couldn’t be prouder to be working with Spencer, Virna, and the rest of the Concert Health team as they tackle one of the most pressing healthcare needs for millions of people.
